Why it's worth the trip
Modef Expo is the trade fair of İnegöl, the district southeast of Bursa that holds Türkiye's largest concentration of furniture manufacturing. It is not a metropolitan design show. It is a working sourcing fair, staged on a permanent municipal fairground inside a public culture park, in the middle of the cluster it represents — which is precisely what makes it useful. Around 140 to 150 manufacturers exhibit at each edition, according to Turkish press coverage of the two most recent shows, and the fairground covers 28,000 square metres. The product mix is broad and unmistakably commercial: bedroom sets in modern, classic and avant-garde styles, dining rooms, seating groups and upholstery, baby, children's and youth rooms, wall units and TV units, tables and chairs, office furniture, beds and divan bases, plus furniture hardware, accessories and decoration products. The organiser publishes a visitor profile of exporters, importers, dealer candidates and furniture wholesalers, and entry is by free e-ticket registered in advance. The scale of the surrounding cluster is the real story. As of May 2024, the İnegöl Chamber of Commerce and Industry listed 2,005 active furniture businesses across six trade codes, and the İnegöl Carpenters and Furniture Makers Chamber a further 1,802 — around 3,807 registered firms between them, with local estimates putting the true figure above 4,300 once non-chamber workshops are counted. İnegöl's furniture exports exceeded USD 823 million in 2023, and over USD 1 billion including forest products, against Türkiye-wide furniture exports of roughly USD 5 billion. MODEF runs twice a year, spring and autumn. Several international listing sites still describe it as an annual April event — that is out of date.
İnegöl's pitch to European and Middle Eastern buyers is transit time, not just price. The organiser markets the cluster on roughly seven-day delivery to Europe against forty-five days from the Far East, plus mixed-container consolidation from a single location — one district, hundreds of factories, one container. For a buyer running tight replenishment cycles or a contract project with a fixed handover date, that difference matters more than a few points on unit cost. Ask every supplier you meet about consolidation and container booking directly; it is the cluster's stated differentiator and the answer will tell you quickly who can actually execute.

Bursa Yenişehir Airport
YEI is the nearest airport but carries very limited scheduled traffic, mostly domestic and seasonal — do not plan an international itinerary around it without checking routes first. Sources disagree on the distance to İnegöl: road-distance calculators give roughly 29-31 km and 32-36 minutes, while an İnegöl local source states around 45 km and 40-50 minutes. Treat it as roughly 30-45 km, about 35-50 minutes by car. There is no confirmed dedicated airport shuttle to İnegöl. Most international buyers arrive via Istanbul — Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side is the closer of the two Istanbul airports by road, via the Osmangazi Bridge and the O-5 motorway. A pleasant alternative is the ferry across the Sea of Marmara. Budget for a pre-booked transfer or hire car either way.

Local Guide: İnegöl
İnegöl is a working furniture town of the sort that exists in only a handful of places worldwide — think Foshan or Brianza, at a smaller scale. It sits inland and slightly higher than Bursa city, about 56 km southeast. October is one of the better months to come: average highs around 21.7°C easing from roughly 24°C at the start of the month to 18°C by the end, average lows near 9.9°C, and about 68 mm of rain over nine or so days, usually as heavy bursts rather than drizzle. Pack a rain layer and something warm for the evenings. Hotel stock in İnegöl itself is limited and fills up during fair week, so book months ahead or base yourself in Bursa and commute.
