Furniture fairs in Europe

54 furniture and interiors fairs across 19 countries — grouped by what each cluster is actually for, so you can tell an order-writing fair from a sourcing one before you book the flight.

Europe has more furniture fairs than any other region, and that abundance is the problem. A buyer looking at the calendar for the first time sees forty plausible-looking events and no obvious way to rank them. The useful distinction isn’t size or prestige — it’s what each fair is for. Broadly, European fairs do one of three jobs, and the halls look almost identical whichever job they’re doing.

Order-writing fairs

Retailers meet the brands and wholesalers they already buy from and commit to next season’s range. M.O.W. and the East Westphalia shows, January Furniture Show, Brussels, Esprit Meuble, Möbelmässan, Glee. Excellent for a retailer, near-useless for an importer looking for a factory — the exhibitor is usually a distributor, not the maker.

Specification and design fairs

Where architects, contract buyers and product teams decide what a range should look like next year. Salone del Mobile, Maison & Objet, Orgatec, Stockholm, Decorex, Clerkenwell. You leave with references and contacts rather than a signed order.

Manufacturing, components and sourcing fairs

Where the supply chain trades with itself: SICAM and interzum for components, DREMA and FIMMA Maderalia for machinery and materials, Intermob and WoodTech in Istanbul. If your goal is to meet people who actually make things, this is the shortlist — and in Europe it is a much shorter list than the calendar suggests.

The second thing worth knowing is when. Across the 285 European fairs we currently track with a confirmed next edition, 61% hold it between September and November — 175 of them. Autumn is not one busy patch in the European calendar; it is most of the calendar. January and February carry a smaller second wave (imm cologne, Ambiente, Milano HOME, January Furniture Show, Stockholm, Meble Polska), and April belongs almost entirely to Milan. Plan around that concentration early: hotels in Cologne, Milan and Valencia during their fair weeks are booked months ahead and priced accordingly.

🇩🇪 Germany

Order writing, contract, components

Germany runs more furniture and interiors fairs than any other European country, and they split cleanly by job. Cologne holds the international set — Orgatec for workplace and contract, spoga+gafa for garden and outdoor, imm cologne in January, interzum for components in odd years. Eighty kilometres north-east, the East Westphalia furniture region runs something quite different: a cluster of trade-only order fairs in one September week, where the German-speaking retail trade actually writes its buy for the following year.

🇮🇹 Italy

Design authority and the components supply chain

Italy carries two quite separate reputations. Milan in April is the design event the rest of the industry takes its cues from, and it is as much a press and specification occasion as a buying one. Pordenone in October is the opposite: SICAM is where the hardware, panels, edging, fittings and surfaces that go inside other people’s furniture are traded, and it matters to anyone who manufactures rather than merely buys.

Décor, lifestyle and hospitality specification

Paris owns the décor and lifestyle end of the European calendar. Maison & Objet runs twice a year and is the reference show for anyone buying accessories, decorative furniture and gift-adjacent product; its September edition overlaps Paris Design Week, which turns the whole city into an extension of the fair. Esprit Meuble in November is the more workmanlike counterpart — a French retail ordering fair — and Equip’Hotel serves hospitality and restaurant fit-out.

🇪🇸 Spain

One venue, one week, four categories

Spain concentrates almost everything into Valencia. Hábitat, Espacio Cocina SICI and Home Textiles Premium run on the same dates at Feria Valencia, so furniture, kitchens and home textiles can be covered in a single visit — an unusually efficient trip for a buyer working across categories. FIMMA Maderalia, the machinery and materials side, runs separately in November.

🇬🇧 🇮🇪 United Kingdom & Ireland

Retail buying, not manufacturing

The British calendar is built around retail buyers placing orders, and Birmingham’s NEC is where most of that happens — January Furniture Show for the furniture trade, Autumn Fair and Glee in September for home, gift and garden retail. London runs the specification end instead: Decorex for high-end interiors and hospitality, Clerkenwell Design Week and the London Design Festival for contract and contemporary design. Very little of it is a route to a factory.

🇸🇪 🇫🇮 🇳🇴 🇩🇰 The Nordics

Design-led, small halls, high specification value

Nordic fairs are small by continental standards and worth attending for reasons that have little to do with volume. Stockholm in February is the region’s anchor and runs alongside Stockholm Design Week; Formex is the twice-yearly interiors and gift show; Gothenburg, Helsinki and Oslo each hold their own national furniture and design fairs. For a contract or retail buyer building a design-led range, these halls are where the specification comes from, not where the container gets filled.

🇵🇱 🇷🇴 🇸🇰 🇱🇻 🇭🇷 🇷🇸 Poland & Central Eastern Europe

Where Europe actually makes furniture

If you want European-made product with European lead times, this is the part of the map to work. Poland is one of the two or three largest furniture exporters in Europe by value — its own investment agency ranks it first among EU member states, ahead of Germany and Italy, while other tallies place it third in Europe — and Poznań hosts both the finished-goods fair (Meble Polska, February) and the production-technology fair (DREMA, September). Around it, Bucharest, Bratislava, Riga, Zagreb and Belgrade run national furniture fairs that are small but sit close to real factories.

🇹🇷 Türkiye

The manufacturing bridge

Istanbul is the closest thing Europe has to an Asian-style sourcing calendar: a large domestic manufacturing base, a September and October run of fairs covering panels, hardware, bedding, upholstery materials and finished furniture, and a customs union with the EU that shapes how the trade routes work. For a European importer weighing a long-haul sourcing trip against a short one, this is the obvious comparison to make first.

🇧🇪 🇳🇱 Belgium & the Netherlands

Commercial ordering fairs

The Brussels Furniture Fair has been an unapologetically commercial ordering event since 1937 and is one of the few places where Western European independent retail still buys as a bloc. In the Netherlands, Gorinchem runs two compact trade shows a fortnight apart in September — Garden Preview for the outdoor season and InCoDa for interiors — which makes a short, cheap trip for a buyer who needs to see next season’s garden range early.

Four European clusters you can cover in one trip

Because so much of Europe’s calendar lands in the same weeks, several fairs that look like separate trips are really one. These four combinations come out of the dates on this site, not from anyone’s brochure:

  • East Westphalia, Germany. M.O.W., Küchenmeile, area30 and Interior Days all run in the same September week, inside a triangle roughly 40 km across between Bad Salzuflen, Löhne and Bielefeld. One hotel, one hire car, four fairs. It is the densest week on the European furniture calendar and the least well known outside the German trade.
  • Valencia, Spain. Hábitat, Espacio Cocina SICI and Home Textiles Premium share dates at the same venue — furniture, kitchens and textiles without changing cities.
  • Istanbul, Türkiye. IBIA, Intermob and FDI fall within about ten days of each other in September, covering bedding and upholstery materials, the furniture sub-industry, and finished furnishings — with factory visits realistic in between.
  • Gorinchem, Netherlands. Garden Preview and InCoDa sit a fortnight apart in the same small Dutch town — a cheap way to see both the outdoor and the indoor season early.

Every fair page on this site lists its nearest airport and typical travel time and flags other fairs in the same weeks, so you can build the itinerary without cross-referencing a dozen organiser calendars. The preparation guide covers what to do once the dates are booked.

What Europe’s calendar won’t give you

One thing is worth saying plainly, because most European fair guides avoid it. If you are an importer or a retailer looking for the factory that will actually build your product, the majority of the fairs above are the wrong room. The exhibitor on the stand at an order-writing fair is generally a brand or a distributor selling finished goods on European terms — which is exactly right if you want short lead times, small minimums and European compliance handled for you, and exactly wrong if you are trying to buy at manufacturer prices.

The genuine European sourcing routes are narrower than the calendar implies: the Polish and Central European producing belt, Italy’s components sector, and Türkiye. Beyond those, most volume categories — outdoor and garden furniture in particular — are made in Asia, and the European fair is where that product surfaces rather than where it originates. That is not a reason to skip the European shows; it is a reason to be clear about which question you are there to answer.
